Transfering A Call

John Scarborough: The first feature that we would like to demonstrate is how to transfer a phone call. First, let me explain the two types of call transfers that your Polycom phone can perform. The first is a blind transfer which is when a call is transferred to another user without informing that user that you intend to do so. When you want to initiate a blind transfer while on a call, simply press the Transfer hard key or the button corresponding to the Transfer soft key on your phone’s display. You will then have to hit the Blind soft key specified on your screen.

Next, enter the phone extension or telephone number you wish to transfer the current call to and then press the Send soft key. The call will immediately transfer to the other user. One great advantage to a blind transfer is that when you transfer the call off, the person receiving the transfer will be able to identify the call by the originating number’s caller ID.

The other type of transfer is called an announced transfer. This is when you wish to inform another user that you plan to transfer a call to him or her before you do so. To initiate this type of transfer, simply press the Transfer hard key or the button corresponding to the Transfer soft key on your phone’s display and then enter the other user’s phone extension or telephone number. The caller will automatically be placed on hold and the new phone will ring. When that user answers, you can inform them that you will be directing a call to their phone. Next, touch the Transfer soft key button again and the call will be sent to the new user’s phone. Note that when the call is transferred, it will show up with your caller ID and not the originating number’s caller ID. If the new user does not answer, you can return to the caller by pressing the Cancel soft key.
